Q & A

Hello,
A few years ago I weighed 150lbs. I lost 25 of that. Well recently I gained back 9 lbs. I have been trying so hard to loose it and I am just stuck. I exercise daily. I do Leslie Sansone walk at home dvd’s and Jillian Michael’s 30 day shred. But I am not seeing any budge in my weight lose. What do you suggest that I need to do to get these pounds off?
Thanks,
Tracy

Hi Tracy!

Thanks for your question!

Congratulations on losing 25 pounds. Even if you are 9 pounds over you’re goal weight, you’re current weight is nothing to be upset about!

Though it would be helpful for me to know more about you (your age, height, eating style, body frame, etc.), I can offer you some suggestions on how to overcome your weight loss plateau. Most plateaus can be overcome by increasing your metabolism and jump-starting the fat-burning process in your body. When you do the same thing over and over again (do the same workouts, eat the same foods, etc.), you’re body will settle into the routine and will stop losing weight. You need to keep shaking things up to keep your metabolism cranking!

If you have been doing the same DVDs for a while now, try incorporating some new ones into your workouts to stimulate your body in a new way. Leslie Sansone and Jillian Michael both have awesome DVDs. I’ve done some of Jillian’s workouts and really enjoyed them - but don’t limit yourself to the same DVDs over and over again because you will get too good at them! Your body will master all the moves and you’ll stop making progress. The more you can vary your workouts the better! You may even want to try taking Leslie’s walking workout outside - even just changing up the terrain will make a difference.

Strength training is another great way to stimulate fat-burning because muscle is very metabolic active and when you add more muscle mass to your frame you automatically burn more calories all day long (even at rest). Try increasing your strength training program. This can be as easy as adding more weight to your current exercises, adding more exercises to your routines, or do more repetitions of each exercise you already do. If you present your body with a new challenge at every workout - even just one new challenge - it won’t have a chance to get complacent!

You might also want to take a look at what (and how much) you are eating. Again, I don’t know how you are eating now and you may just be on target but a lot of women who are concerned with their weight will drop their calories too low and that can actually make your metabolism slow down too! Every time you eat something you stimulate the digestive process and that process produces heat and that heat can only be generated by burning calories. If you eat clean, lean foods in sensible portions frequently throughout the day (never letting yourself feel too hungry OR too full) you should see some positive results.

Of course, those tips are just the tip of the iceberg! There are so many small things you can do to every day to speed up your metabolism. My book, Metabolize This! Everything You Need To Know To Kick-Start Your Metabolism is chock-full of every single tip I could ever think of - I searched everywhere for information on speeding up your metabolism and compiled it all in one place! I wrote the book with someone like you in mind…someone who is frustrated with their weight loss efforts and want to start seeing results! Let me know if you are interested in ordering a copy and I can arrange sending one out to you.
