Have you ever wondered if you are getting the same workout when you use a treadmill versus when you run or walk outside? In fact, you are not. But don’t despair! You can make them equal if you simply increase your treadmill incline to 1%.

When you walk or run outside, you are battling wind resistance, weather conditions, and random inclines and declines. These outdoor elements can make your workout harder than on a treadmill, which is in a controlled environment. A treadmill belt even helps propel you a bit. By increasing your incline to 1% you are compensating for the outdoor elements your indoor treadmill is lacking. The more you incline your treadmill, the harder your workout will get. If you really want to maximize your treading, increase the incline even more! If you want to simulate outdoor hills, try going up and down with your treadmill incline – but always keep it at a minimum of 1%.
